Camogie Mini All Ireland – Thanks and Photos

The Juvenile Camogie Committee tasked a small group of volunteers to pilot a Mini All Ireland Go Games blitz for our primary school players. The Gods smiled on Faughs that afternoon with beautiful sunshine, blue skies and a gentle balmy breeze bringing the community together for love of keeping girls engaged in sports and camogie.

Tentative, nervous smiles as parents and children piled into the grounds of Templeogue College with hurls and helmets ready in hand. The evening games were supported by our young referees, as well as fun entertainment provided by Aisling and her team of volunteers with tug of war, hula hoop games, tuck shop and refreshments.

Once the teams were united with their team managers, the hooter sounded at 6.45pm and the games began. Nerves quickly dissipated as focus shifted to key task of winning the ball. The girls quickly leaped into action executing skills practised over the season. With each strike, hand passing the sliotar flew toward the goal. Mentors and parents cheered with every score and gasped with every wide.

Every team enjoyed two matches. This was achieved despite Kildare going MIA for their second match. Eoin was so busy enjoying the atmosphere he didn’t realise they were needed on Pitch 3, the Limerick team and managers were dancing at the prospect of a walkover. However their chances were scuppered by a quick scramble of the Kildare team, and an even quicker Annika throwing in the sliotar before any challenge could be made. The girls got stuck in and match play started.

Big thank you to our club referees Maria, Joe, Annika, Tori and Alannah.  To our sporting 150+ players, all the mentors who are so giving of the time and the parents for your kind encouragement.

To the senior players, Heidi, Freya, Claire and Jess for rushing down after their own training session in Tymon Park to cheer on the players and award them with their Participation Certs.

Big Thank You to the organising committee, to Templeogue College for the use of their playing grounds, Terenure College and St Pius for the loan of equipment to help with the fun activities, the essential loudspeaker and fog horn.

We look forward to next year!!
