Faughs Community Schools Night 2023 – Thursday 22 June – 7.30pm
The Faughs 9th community schools night takes place on Thursday 22nd June at 7.30pm in Faughs GAA Club. This event is a previous winner of South Dublin County Council’s Sports and Recreation Community Endeavour Award.
We are honoured to be joined this year by former Waterford player and manager and current member of Dublin’s u20 management team, Derek Mc Grath. Over 50 designs will be on display from over 150 4th classers from local schools in Terenure and Templeogue including St Josephs, St Pius boys and girls, Presentation school and Cheeverstown. This year’s project sees the boys and girls coming up with designs for the club’s new Eamonn Rea and Una O’Connor gyms which were opened earlier this year. Winning prizes will be presented to each school along with an overall winning prize (judged by our judging panel). Fun promised for all …. refreshments for all ……many prizes for the best questions for Derek ….PLEASE COME AND SUPPORT THE FREE EVENT
About our Celebrity, Derek
Derek hails from Waterford and is a secondary school teacher with De La Salle College.
He has achieved huge success as a player and as a manager with De La Salle club (who he managed to win the Waterford Senior Championship in 2012), De La Salle College and Waterford (won Munster minor and club titles; managed De La Salle College to Harty Cup success on a number of occasions; managed Waterford Senior Hurlers from 2013 to 2018 and was narrowly defeated in the All-Ireland final of 2017). Derek is currently a member of the management team of Dublin’s U20 Hurlers and is an analyst with RTE’s the Sunday game. He is hugely passionate about our National Game and operates at the highest level of coaching.
