Boys U8s versus NAAS and WESTMANSTOWN GAELS 8th October 2016
On Saturday October 8th the U8’s hosted NAAS at Kimmage Manor. There was a good turn out again from the guys and actually ended up with 19 players for the 2 teams. As Naas were only able to field 11 players we had to ask the guys to swap teams so that they all could play. Although reluctant, some of them stood up and played very well for both teams as they switched at half time.
The matches were competitive and there were some strong performances on both sides. We played AIR hurling for the second halves of the matches and all the guys are starting to get the hang of this, so with a bit more home practice they should be flying for next year when it becomes standard. Despite the challenges of the long grass there was some great teamwork and positive efforts.
Whereas a number of players deserve mention for their efforts including Eoin, Noah, Bobby and Peter, Vihan showed great attitude on the day and was the first to concede to play with the opposition and he was awarded MAN of the MATCH.
The other two teams from Faughs U8s Boys made the long journey across the River Liffey to play WESTMANSTOWN GAELS at their GAA pitches at the Garda Sports Centre in Westmanstown. (A few comments were overheard from parents of the Faughs players that they were seeing parts of Dublin they never knew existed 🙂 ). Westmanstown had 2 teams with good numbers which resulted in good tests for both Faughs teams.
The first halves of the 4 matches consisted of ground hurling with AIR hurling allowed for the second halves. All the Faughs players performed admirably at both the ground hurling and the air hurling skills with a special mention for Cillian McCoubrey and Neil O’Donovan who were both making their debuts for Faughs.
Congrats to Neil O’Donovan and Ben Mulvihill (another recent new recruit) who won the MAN of the MATCH trophies for their performances on the day.
